One of the major cultural and business hubs in Western India, Ahmedabad is a good destination for a road trip. Many Mumbaikars go to the city for work and personal business and the Mumbai to Ahmedabad route also has many other attractions on the way.

Mumbai to Ahmedabad Route

The 530-km route north on the NH48 has many enroute attractions that are worth a diversion. The city of Vadodara is famous for its palatial architecture –highlights are the Nyay Mandir and the Lakshmi Vilas. Closer to Ahmedabad, Anand is known as the Milk Capital of the country – home to Amul. Surat is around midway on the journey, requiring a slight detour. What is a road trip without a dhaba meal? The Kinara Dhaba in Vasai with its eccentric interiors and a multi-cuisine menu is a recommended stop.

Attractions in Ahmedabad

The Sabarmati Ashram is the place where Mahatma Gandhi spent many years and is today the most important landmark of the city. Ahmedabad is a busy centre of trade and culture and this is most evident in its iconic Manek Chowk, a good place to try out some evening snacks. The Kankaria Lake Complex is another favoured destination. The zoo here is home to many rare species like blackbucks, tigers and wild asses.
History buffs would enjoy a trip to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial, also famous for its Mughal architecture, and the Hazrat Pir Mohammad Shah Library, home to many old manuscripts. Another interesting site in the city is one that snakes along the Sabarmati River – the waterfront walkway. The river promenade is a nice place to soak in the beauty of the city and enjoy a stroll with loved ones. The Calico Museum charts the rise of the textile industry in the region – exhibits include precious fabrics preserved from the old Mughal courts. The Sidi Saiyyed Mosque is known for its intricate stone window carvings and splendid architecture.

When in Ahmedabad, one must try out the delicious and unique local cuisine. Apart from the famous Gujarati thali, visitors to the town can try out Dhokla and Khaman, Kulfi, Maska Bun, and Dalvada.

Self Drive Advantage

Many informed travellers enjoy the freedom and privacy of a car rental. They get to enjoy impromptu stops and detours which add more to the journey. Platforms like Zoomcar offer the widest range of car models – registered customers can book sedans, hatchbacks and SUVs in a few minutes. The assurance of 24/7 on-road support adds to the convenience of renting a self drive vehicle. This is one of the main reasons why travellers consider this option for long road trips. Mumbai to Pune is another popular Zoomcar route.

Gujarat’s largest city is a dynamic place, boasting a constantly changing skyline and a fast-evolving cultural landscape. In many ways, it also has the identity of an old India, the most prominent landmark situated peacefully on the banks of the Sabarmati. Call the friends, plan a trip and get behind the wheel.
